Sailing Charleston Vacation

sailing Charleston

Sailing Charleston area rivers and the Atlantic Ocean is a great vacation getaway for anyone. Sailing Charleston harbor is interesting. However, just a short drive south of Charleston you will find a magnificent sailing world. There are no big city Charleston crowds while sailing here, just your private sailing party of up to six embarking from Bohicket Marina for the natural beauty of the pristine Edisto River or Atlantic Ocean. Dolphins play along side while your skipper shares the local sailing lore and natural history of this area not far from Charleston. The unique wilderness scenery of our salt marshes are renowned for an amazing variety of abundant wildlife unlike sailing around the commercial activity of Charleston harbor. The Captain lets you actually steer, sailing the boat as much or little as you like. Enjoy shaded comfort in the cockpit or relax on deck to catch a few rays during your Charleston vacation. It is your day, your way, whether that is venturing out from Charleston for serious blue water sailing, family fun with the kids or leisurely enjoying our world famous sunsets with a cocktail. Charleston locals and international travelers agree that this is the "most memorable part of our Charleston vacation". Charter your own private affordable sailing yacht near Charleston. Private Island Picnic Shelling Adventure: Specifically tailored to the charter guests personal interest. Great for families with kids, adult groups or corporate outings. Captain jack will tow a small inflatable rubber boat (dingy) behind the sailing yacht PALMETTO TIDE as you sail to a remote pristine barrier island. Upon arrival we drop anchor and dingy ashore to visit the best beach in South Carolina. This is a great spot to completely get away from it all. Shells are incredibly plentiful for the visiting beachcomber. Time seems to slow down in the picturesque surroundings. It's so beautiful some people are content just laying out on deck or sitting in the shaded cockpit of the Palmetto Tide watching the tides rise and fall. There are always dolphin to be found. Sometimes the local nesting pair of American Bald Eagles can be seen souring above and on rare occasions a giant manatee breaks the surface of the water just off the beach. During nesting season it is very common to see massive female loggerhead sea turtles scoping out the beach and finding the perfect spot to go ashore later that night to lay her eggs. Remember, "IT'S YOUR DAY. YOUR WAY"

Dolphin Watching: In 1991 Captain Jack began taking out charter guest aboard his sailboat Palmetto Tide. Your dolphin watching trip starts at Bohicket Marina located between Kiawah Island and Seabrook Island just south of Charleston, South Carolina. This is probably the best place on the East Coast to see dolphin as it is the home of the most northern permanent population of Atlantic bottle nose dolphin. Not to mention the hordes of migratory "biker dolphins" seasonally cruising through upsetting the local population pods pecking order. Sometimes it's a veritable dolphin free for all. There is a lot to see if you know where to look. Captain Jack knows where to find them in their favorite spots. Capt. Jack has spent the last 12 years observing and studying dolphin and loves to talk to his charter guest about every aspect relative to them. They truly have ingenious ways of doing everything, from feeding to socializing, to mating!
